I spent this past weekend in Minden, Nevada. Why? Well, technically, I grew up there. But, more importantly, I have a couple good friends there. People who know me. Love me. Make me laugh. Mix a good cocktail.
What I didn't know was that the Town of Minden was celebrating its 100 year anniversary this weekend. I also didn't know I'd have the pleasure of attending the celebration (video seen here). Folks, this is the stuff of movies. I think Groundhog Day was filmed here...or Deliverance. Either way, it's a surreal experience. Not the stuff of big cities. Not even the stuff of medium-sized cities. It's the kind of place where you see things like this:
There's no audio with this picture, but the missionaries were saying "Have you heard of the Book of Mormon?" I swear. Really. This was no joke. God, I miss Minden. You just don't see stuff like this in the Bay Area unless it's the Bay to Breakers and someone's usually nude.
