Mercury News: Bay Area news, technology, jobs, cars & real estate: "Mills coach dies

Mills High and the Millbrae community suffered a loss Monday when Kelly Shea Gallo died after a 10-month fight with breast cancer. The cancer had metastasized undetected to her liver, and she died of complications from liver failure.

Gallo, 35, spent the past four seasons coaching the girls varsity basketball team at Mills. She also taught social studies at Taylor Middle School in Millbrae and coached at a local swim club. She is survived by her husband, Mark, and their two daughters, ages 7 and 4.

``The whole community feels a great loss,'' said Bob Thompson, the athletic director at Mills. ``Her involvement with the young people starts at a very young age. She has known most of the young kids that have come through the school system in Millbrae.''

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Dunstan Church in Millbrae."
